When Jane joined the knitters at Skein Lane, she soon became the leader of our community knitting group. The group consists of many Skein Lane customers, and under Jane’s guidance, has completed many projects. Past service projects have included: knitted Christmas gifts for a local interfaith group serving homeless women and children, a contribution of knitted squares for the New York City 9/11 project sponsored by XRX Publications, and knitting chemo caps for local hospitals for men, women and children receiving cancer treatment at local hospitals.
For all of her contributions to needlearts and the community, Skein Lane nominated Jane for an the Star Stitcher Award, sponsored by the National Needle Arts Association (TNNA). Out of entries from around the country, Jane was recognized for her outstanding volunteer spirit and won the award. Part of her prize included an all expenses paid trip to travel to the TNNA show in Long Beach California, with Skein Lane, where Jane received her award.
Skein Lane is so proud of all of Jane's accomplishments and we look forward to even more community work with her soon. Having just retired, she feels energized and excited to become even more active in knitting and the community.
The knitting and crocheting happens on the first and third Sunday of each month at the Skein Lane Studio, 7523 Fairmount Avenue, El Cerrito. Jane encourages knitters and crocheters to participate either by joining our group at Skein Lane. Or, when schedules do not permit, feel free to drop by and contribute completed items.
