Have you just learned to knit and want to know more? During this series you will learn several ways to cast on, bind off, increase and decrease. You will continue to learn about stitch construction and correcting mistakes. You will become familiar with reading knitting patterns as well as how to read the yarn ball band. With that knowledge, you will go on a "field trip" in the studio and learn to select yarn for a project that you can begin in class: choose from a sampler scarf, hat, wrist warmers. Materials list available upon registration.

This series expands on the several ways to cast on, increase and decrease, how to "read" your stitches, to fix mistakes and we will focus on neat edges. You will learn more about reading patterns and how to use patterns as inspiration so that you may customize to your size and taste. There will be another "field trip" through the Studio to broaden your knowledge of yarn selection and pattern selection. You will embark on a knitting project of your choice that will encompass new learning for you.
Enrollment note: this series is open to any student who has taken a beginning knitting class or has equivalent experience and wishes to learn the skills covered in this class. Beginning Knitting Series-Level 1 is not a requirement for enrollment.

The percentage sweater, inspired by Elizabeth Zimmerman, is yet another opportunity to personalize your sweater fit. This sweater is knit from the bottom up in the round.....the body and the sleeves separately and then joined for the yoke. It's a fun sweater and there is ample time built into the 4-session workshop to complete your sweater. Join us...it will be a lot of fun and a great deal of satisfaction as you successfully complete the project.

Want to convert your flat knitting into the round? This is an opportunity to understand pattern construction...how construction is in flat knitting (5 pieces: 2 fronts, back and 2 sleeves) and then how to convert that information into knitting in the rounds. Knitting in the round will reduce your seaming needs and it will often help self-striping yarns look better. With the addition of a false seam, you can create a drape for your garment that will cause it to lay beautifully on the body

Have you had your colors done? This workshop will be a great chance to review what colors are best for you and the ways in which colors can be combined. An example would be that I cannot wear blue.....and in fact, just recently in a knitting workshop as I tried on a knitted blue sweater, it was immediately noted that I "washed out". Let's spend some time getting intimate with our colors and thus choose what's best for each of us.

MaggiKnits designs are beautiful works of art - to knit and then to wear! When I was selecting buttons at a local fabric store (Stone Mountain & Daughter)for my recently completed La Alhambra poncho-like shawl, the person helping me described my piece as a work of art and that I should select buttons accordingly. Good advice! In the meantime....there are several choices, i.e. La Alhambra, Alaca, Pico Valeta (all stoles) to choose from Book 11 to knit and that will be our focus for this Spring/Summer knitalong. We will knitting works of art...then we will have to go out for an evening dinner wearing our new designs. Join us for a fun knitalong.

There were so many choices for a summer knitalong and it was narrowed down to two...and even with that I am offering modifications on the first design...primarily to accomodate my love of V-neck designs.
The first design - a lace style sweater/top is perfect for a summer knitalong....we can knit away on a lightweight project that will be perfect for wearing in our Indian Summer Days and even those surprise summer days here in the San Francisco Bay Area. This design comes to us from Kristen Ten Dyke, featured in the Spring/Summer 2008 issue of Vogue. The designer chose Classic Elite Yarns Premier (pima cotton/tencel) with a gauge of
5½ sts/inch on #6 needles.
The second design is a lovely summer tank that takes you many places - the beach, the cafe, and out for the evening. This design comes to us from Dawn Leeseman, also featured in the Spring/Summuer 2008 issue of Vogue.
Join us for our knitalong...great knitting ...great companionship!

This sweater was featured in the Fall 2000 issue of Knitter's Magazine. One of my former staff made this sweater out of Mission Falls 1824 wool, and I "inherited" it. It is one of my favorites, it's very comfortable and I always get compliments when I wear it. As stated in Knitter's Magazine, "This pullover combines an easy-to-knit circular body and flattering ribbed yoke".
The design comes from Charlotte Quiggle

This lovely design comes to us from Norah Gaughan and is published in Interweave Knits - Winter 2006. To quote Interweave, "A Rich Play of Texture Patterns - twist stitches, cables, and ribs - embellishes Norah Gaughan's fitted cardigan. Small gussets worked in seed stitch taper from the hem to shape the waist on front and back, and three-quarter length sleeves end just below the elbow. A scalloped crocheted edging finishes the narrow shawl collar and buttonbands.
